Dear Families,
Things are a bustle of activity here in the ACS Elementary School as we prepare to welcome your family to ACS. We look forward to supporting students as they embrace our ACS school values of Community, Empowerment, and Growth each and every day throughout the school year!
Yours,
Michelle Alzamora
Elementary School Principal
The Elementary School office is located on the third floor of the building across from the elevator. Most of our classes are on the 2nd and 3rd floor with Arabic, Music, EYP, Kindergarten, and 1st grade on the ground floor. To provide support during the first few weeks of school, we will have both students and ES staff available to ensure all students arrive at their designated classrooms on time.
Drop Off
Supervision will be available for students 15 minutes before school starts. Please do not arrive at school before 7:45 (8:45 on Tuesdays.) Students in EYP and KG should be taken directly to their classes when they arrive in the morning. Our EYP and KG TAs will be waiting at the buses to help students who ride the bus. All other students will meet their teachers on the playground beginning on the second day of school.
Pick Up
KG - Grade 5 students who are not riding the bus will be picked up at the quad near the swimming pool. To ensure your child’s safety, we will only send students home with people who have a badge that is connected with your student or if you have previously organized a playdate with another ACS family. Students who are still at school after 3:10 will wait for their parents at the ES office.
Playdates
We are excited that children will have the opportunity to play with their friends after school. If your child is going on a playdate, the parents from BOTH families must send a written note to the school. Please do not email the teacher about playdates after the start of the school day. We will not permit children to leave with another family unless we have a note. Also, please note that children will not be able to ride the school bus for playdates. Children will only be permitted to ride their regular bus.
Please only send a backpack, healthy snack, lunchbox, reusable water bottle, change of clothes, and swimming kit on swimming days.
The school provides most supplies to students.
5th grade students must bring a family-owned laptop to school. See Technology in ES for details.
Please note that we are a nut-aware school and nuts and nut products should not be brought to school for lunches or snacks.
Students in EYP through 5th grade will take swimming classes as part of their P.E. class during the first and second semesters. Teachers will email parents before the swimming classes begin with more information.
Swimming Kit
An appropriately styled swimsuit (see here for examples)
Swim caps are encouraged but not required. All swimmers with hair that can fit in a ponytail must have their hair tied back or in a swim cap.
A towel to dry off
Flip-flops or sandals - to be used in case of fire alarm, school shoes will be used instead of forgotten flip-flops/sandals if needed
Goggles are recommended
A sports bag (or a simple plastic bag) is recommended to put the wet swimsuit in after class and to keep other personal items from getting wet
A jacket to wear on the field in case of a fire alarm.
If you have any questions please contact Emad Al Wazani, Aquatics Coordinator, at ealwazani@acsamman.edu.jo.
ACS has a cafeteria dining space for students which is managed by Blue Fig's catering service. In collaboration with a certified nutritionist, the cafeteria offers healthy and balanced options that include vegetarian, gluten-free, and dairy-free options.
Grades 1 - 5: Students in grades 1-5 may purchase meals daily or bring a lunch from home. Our hot lunch menu can be found on the community portal Scorpion Central. Students should have an electronic form of payment for lunches, like Zain Cash. Please note that we do not have microwaves or refrigerators available for students
EYP & KG: Students in EYP and Kindergarten must bring a lunch from home and a snack each day.
Students need to bring a water bottle with them to school each day.
Please note that ACS is a nut-aware school and students should not bring nuts or nut products to school for lunch or snacks.
EYP - Grade 3: students in EYP through grade 3 will be issued an iPad by ACS as a learning tool.
Grade 4: students in Grade 4 will be issued a Chromebook as a learning tool.
Grade 5: students in Grades 5 will be responsible for bringing a family-owned laptop to school as part of our “Bring Your Own Device” (BYOD) program, which helps facilitate your child’s learning by enabling their laptop to access their digital resources both at ACS and at home.
Students should not bring SMART watches to school.

To keep our community healthy, we strongly encourage families to keep their children at home if they are not feeling well. School staff are vigilant in identifying students who look unwell and will immediately refer them to the school nurse.
Please contact your child's teacher and Lesley Farhan if your child will be away from school for more than one day.
Activities beyond the school day are an integral part of the overall development of a student. ACS offers a range of activities specifically designed for appropriate-aged students throughout the school year. These offerings vary throughout the year.
Students are expected to sign up for participation in activities during the designated sign-up time and follow through with their commitment to attend the activity each session.
More information will be sent to parents by email after the semester begins.
We make every effort to communicate announcements, events, and information in a timely manner. ACS posts a weekly school-wide newsletter called What’s Going On? (WGO) on the Scorpion Central. Each section principal posts general information in their weekly newsletters each Thursday that is delivered with the WGO.
Each grade level will communicate with you weekly and teachers will communicate as needed.
If you do not receive any communication by email during the first week of school, please contact help@acsamman.edu.jo
We encourage you to visit and "Like" our social media accounts. Instagram, Facebook, and YouTube
